🌻Doushu Astrology Introduction
🌻 What is Doushu Astrology
Doushu Astrology (紫微斗數, zǐ wēi dòu shù) is an ancient Chinese fortune-telling system. The term "Doushu Astrology" consists of four Chinese characters. The first two characters, 紫微 (zǐ wēi), refer to the North Star (Polaris). Its position is fixed in the northern celestial sphere, and it is considered the "king star" because all other stars appear to revolve around it. The third character, 斗 (dòu), refers to the Big Dipper, which is part of the constellation Ursa Major, also known as the Great Bear. The final character, 數 (shù), means mathematics or methodology.
Thus, Doushu Astrology is a fortune-telling system derived from the Polaris Star (the king star), the stars of the Big Dipper, and other celestial bodies. According to legend, the system was first formulated during the Five Dynasties period by the Taoist scholar 陳摶 (Chen Tuan, 872–989 AD). Books on Doushu Astrology are rare. The first comprehensive book on the subject, titled Doushu Astrology Complete (紫微斗數全書, zǐ wēi dòu shù quán shū), was written by 羅洪先 (Luo Hongxian, 1504–1564 AD) during the Ming Dynasty.

🌷Life and 🔮 Fortune
In Doushu Astrology, there is a distinction between a person's "Life" and "Fortune".
🌷Life: A person's Life is composed of 12 aspects, represented by the 12 Palaces on the person's Life Chart. The 12 Palaces describe who you are, what you do, and your relationships with others.
🔮Fortune: Fortune represents a person's past, present, and future events. It represents their life experiences. Each of the 12 boxes on the Life Chart corresponds to specific periods in the person's life. On a Doushu Astrology Chart, there are primarily two layers of fortunes: Major Fortunes and Annual Fortunes. A Major Fortune represents a person's fortune over a specific 10-year period, while an Annual Fortune represents their fortune for a specific year. There are also Monthly, Daily, and Hourly Fortunes, though these are less emphasized by most Polaris astrologers.

🔮Major Fortune: Major Fortune: One major fortune is 10 years. There are a total of 12 major fortunes on the Life Chart.
🔮Annual Fortune: An Annual Fortune represents a person's fortune for a specific year.
🔮Minor Fortune: A Minor Fortune is similar to an Annual fortune. It describes and predicts a person's fortune for a specific year. However, Minor Fortunes are derived using a method different from Annual Fortunes. Most Polaris astrologers do not use Minor Fortunes, some use both.
