The 12 Palaces of Doushu Astrology 紫微斗數十二宮
🌻 The 12 Palaces
There are 12 palaces on the life chart. Each of the palaces represents certain aspects of a person's life.
↪️ 12 Palaces Sequence and Number
The 12 palaces follow a specific sequence and rotate counterclockwise on the Life Chart. The sequence is the same for everyone. Each palace is represented by a number, beginning with 1 (the Life Palace) and ending with 12 (the Parent Palace). The Life Palace can begin anywhere on the chart, depending on the person's lunar birth month and time of birth.

🌱 5. Wealth → 6. Health 7. Journey → 8. Friend →
🌱 9. Career → 10. Home → 11. Fortune → 12. Parent.
🌻 1. Life Palace 命宮
The Life Palace is the most important of the twelve palaces. It represents the self — your inner being, innate abilities, core personality, and behavior.
🌻 2. Sibling Palace 兄弟宮
The Sibling Palace represents your family—particularly the personality and behavior of your mother and/or eldest brother—and your relationships with them.
🌻 3. Spouse Palace 夫妻宮
The Spouse Palace represents the personality, behavior, and appearance of your marriage partner, as well as your relationship with them. It also indicates the likelihood of early or late marriage, remaining unmarried, or facing the risk of divorce.
🌻 4. Child Palace 子女宮
The Child Palace primarily symbolizes your children—specifically your eldest son—his personality, and your relationship with him. Additionally, it represents your sexual activities. If you are remarried, it can also signify the personality of your second spouse.
🌻 5. Wealth Palace 財帛宮
The Wealth Palace represents your attitude toward money, how you earn and spend your money, and the types of professions that are suitable for you.
🌻 6. Health Palace 疾厄宮
The Health Palace represents your physical body, your inner personality and emotions, physical characteristics such as being slim or plump, and any health issues to which you may be prone to.
🌻 7. Journey Palace 遷移宮
The Journey Palace, also known as the Exterior Palace, represents your outer self—how you present and express yourself to others, and how others perceive you. It also reflects your personality, behavior, fortunes, and experiences when you are away from home, such as when you are traveling, studying abroad, working in a foreign country, or doing outdoor activities.
🌻 8. Friend Palace 交友宮
The Friend Palace represents the types of friends you have—your peers, subordinates, superiors, and others who are not blood-related. It also reflects your relationships with them.
🌻 9. Career Palace 官祿宮
The Career Palace, also called the Activity Palace, represents your daily activities, including the types of activities you engage in, such as school and work, and how well you perform in them.
🌻 10. Home Palace 田宅宮
The Home Palace represents your childhood home, living conditions, environment, and the type of home you prefer. In addition, it indicates whether you are likely to own or rent your home. It also reflects your saving habits.
🌻 11. Fortune Palace 福德宮
The Fortune Palace represents your mindset, including what occupies your thoughts and what you do for pleasure—such as your interests and hobbies. It also reflects how you spend money and enjoy your time.
🌻 12. Parent Palace 父母宮
In general, the Parent Palace represents your father's personality and behavior, as well as your relationship with him. The mother is represented by the Sibling Palace.
🌷13. Latter Palace 身宮
The Life Palace represents the first half of a person's life, from birth to around age 35. The Latter Palace is the 13th palace, representing the second half of life, typically from age 36 onward.
When interpreting the Life Chart, the Life Palace should always be regarded as the Self, regardless of age—even if the individual is over 35 years old. The Life Palace is considered the most important palace. Many Doushu astrologers regard the Latter Palace as insignificant and often disregard it when interpreting the Life Chart.
Note: In Chinese, the Latter Palace is referred to as the Body Palace. However, the Body Palace has nothing to do with a person's physical body. To avoid confusion, this website refers to it as the Latter Palace.
🌷The Relationship Between the Latter Palace and Other Palaces
Since there are only 12 palaces in a person's Life Chart, the location of the Latter Palace is shared with one of the 12 palaces. Because of the way the Latter Palace is formulated, the location of the Latter Palace can only be shared with the following six palaces:
Life Palace | Career Palace | Wealth Palace | Journey Palace | Spouse Palace | Fortune Palace |
Whichever palace the Latter Palace is shared with, it is where one's energy is mostly focused.*
- 🌷 Latter Palace shared with the Life Palace: This indicates that you are constantly focusing your energy on yourself, have great fortitude, and are emotionally strong. However, it can sometimes mean that you are stubborn.
- 🌷 Latter shared with the Career: Your career is everything. Your career is everything. You are constantly striving to improve and excel in what you do.
- 🌷 Latter Palace shared with the Wealth Palace: For you, nothing is more important than making money. You are very economical and never waste money.
- 🌷 Latter Palace shared with the Journey Palace: You love to travel and don't like to stay in one place for long. Your working environment is always changing.
- 🌷 Latter Palace shared with the Spouse: Your energy is constantly focused on spousal matters and family life. Additionally, you may be emotionally sensitive.
- 🌷 Latter Palace shared with the Fortune: You are constantly pursuing your hobbies and interests. You might feel emotionally distressed if your job is not aligned with your area of interest.
